Maygen McGrew
Maygen has been practicing
yoga since 2000. In 2002 she began a two year apprenticeship, studying
Hatha yoga with Dawn
Jansen, the
director of JaiMa Yoga. A wanderlust, Maygen traveled around the
country deepening her practice with teachers such as Eddie Modestini
and Nicki Doane, Ana Forrest, and Shiva Rea.
A sincere love and devotion for the practice led Maygen to Dharma
Mittra, who she considers her guru. She attended his retreats and
workshops around the country. Wanting to further her study, she
completed his teacher training at the Dharma Yoga Center in New
York City and
was authorized to teach his method.
Since 2003 Maygen has been loyally teaching the yamas and the niyamas
through daily practice of Hatha-Raja yoga. Although she has studied
and practiced many of the traditions under the Krishnamacharya
lineage, she does not teach “styles” of yoga, but rather the traditional,
classical Raja Yogic tradition that has been taught to her by Sri
Dharmaji – and strives to remain truthful to the traditional
teachings.
Maygen is known for her passionate, dynamic, and inspirational
teaching style. She inspires her students to express the truest
reflections
of their being through a playful dance with the body and breath.
Her classes focus on building awareness, stability, and strength
in a compassionate, uncompetitive environment. You can expect precision
instruction along with a sincere respect and devotion for both
the physical and spiritual aspects of the practice.
