Sadhana = Daily PracticeStories teach the importance of sacrificial rituals to please the Gods. Our practice, Sadhana is just such a sacred ritual during which we symbolically place ourselves on the “altar,” offering ourselves to the divine. In the various sacrificial approaches to appeasing the Gods, the candidate sheds impurities that resides on many levels (bodily, emotional, ego, spiritual), and becomes absorbed in the transcendental moment of complete lightness. This is comparable to how Pantanjali described Samadhi, where the aspirant remains transfixed in the state of blissful union with the supreme realm. In our practice, rhythmic breathing helps to redirect and articulate the flow of the pranic energy. The bandha awareness helps to retain energy and focus within our energetic centers. By directing our internal focus and involving ourselves deeply through our practice with the single desire to offer we generate strong Tapas*. The intensity of the Tapas becomes the fuel of the sacrificial fire that burns and purifies layers of our system from within (blood, energetic channels, nervous system, body, mind and soul). This purification process then prepares us (physically, mentally and spiritually) to place ourselves on the “altar”, set ourselves on fire, and offer ourselves to the Gods. *Traditionally, tapas is described as the inner fire that arises from austerity. Tapas can also be the energetic fire, or the transformative force that is derived from the severity of one's spiritual intention. ~Katerina Wen, Feb. 2006
